Leaf Spring & Suspension FAQ | Abbotsford Spring Shop
Spring and suspension FAQ
Should leaf springs be replaced in pairs?
Always recommended to replace in pairs. A worn spring on one side may not match a new spring on the other. If you need just one spring, call 604-855-9982 to confirm the application and match.
Do heavier springs increase payload or towing capacity?
No. Springs, helper springs and air bags do not increase the vehicle GVWR, GAWR or towing ratings. All vehicle and trailer component ratings still apply.
Can air bags fix a broken leaf spring?
No. Air bags are load-support equipment for compatible applications, not a repair for a broken spring, worn mounting hardware or structural damage.
What information is needed to match a leaf spring?
Provide the vehicle or trailer identification, application, original part number, spring width, mounting type and the measurements requested for that spring. Include photos and details of any modifications.
Should old U-bolts be reused?
Use new, correctly specified U-bolts when the spring or axle clamping assembly is dismantled. Follow the vehicle, axle and hardware manufacturer instructions for dimensions, grade, torque and follow-up checks.
Can I drive or tow with a broken spring?
A broken spring or damaged mount can allow axle movement and loss of control. Do not continue driving or towing; arrange a safe inspection or transport.
Where is the shop and which areas do you serve?
The shop is at Unit B9-10, 33733 King Road, Abbotsford BC V2S 7M9. Customers from Chilliwack, Langley, Mission, Surrey and the wider Fraser Valley can call before travelling to Abbotsford. Hours are Mon–Fri 8–5 and Sat 8–12.
Is every spring measurement taken along the curve?
No. Measurement conventions vary by spring design and supplier. Confirm whether straight-line or along-leaf measurements and loaded or unloaded dimensions are required before comparing a spring to a catalog.
